Pregnancy and Transport Work

Practical questions and official resources for drivers, planners, dispatchers, mechanics, warehouse teams, office staff, cleaners, managers and other transport roles.

No individual medical, licensing or employment decision
DriverWell does not decide whether a person can drive or work, whether a complication requires DVLA notification, what a workplace must do or whether a pay or leave entitlement applies.

Use a midwife, GP, obstetric team or occupational-health professional for personal medical and work-fitness advice.

Use current ACAS, HSE and GOV.UK guidance for workplace and benefit questions. Use current DVLA condition guidance or contact DVLA for licensing questions.

Questions for work and care planning

With your maternity team

Discuss symptoms, medicines, seat-belt positioning, appointment needs and any concern about driving or safety-critical work.

Seek urgent clinical advice when NHS or maternity-team instructions say the symptom requires it.

With your employer

Ask how the pregnancy risk assessment covers the actual role, including driving, vibration, lifting, shift patterns, fatigue, welfare facilities and access to appointments.

Ask for the organisation's current route for changes to duties, working conditions, leave or occupational-health referral.

Driving, complications and medicines

The answer depends on symptoms, complications, treatment, licence group and professional advice. DriverWell does not maintain a trimester-by-trimester fitness rule.

Read medicine information and ask the prescriber or pharmacist how any treatment may affect driving or other safety-critical tasks.
