DriverWell is free for every individual in the transport industry - but it is also a practical tool for fleet managers, transport operators, and HR teams who want to support their workforce without adding to their administrative burden. This guide explains how to get the most out of DriverWell as a manager or employer.
Step 1 - Share the Find Your Hub Page
The quickest way to introduce DriverWell to your team is to share a single link: driverwell.co.uk/hubs. The Find Your Hub page lists every sector hub on the platform as a card - HGV & Freight, Coach & Bus, Van & Light Commercial, Taxi & Private Hire, Logistics & Warehousing, Mechanic & Workshop, Office & Admin, Dispatcher & Control, Courier & Rider, and Cleaner & Maintenance.
Each card shows the hub name, a short description, and the types of roles it covers. Your drivers, warehouse staff, mechanics, and office team can each navigate to the hub that fits their role without you needing to send different links to different groups. One URL works for the whole fleet.
You can share it via your driver briefing board, WhatsApp group, email newsletter, or intranet. It requires no login to view.
Step 2 - Use the Operator Toolkit
DriverWell's Operator Toolkit (available under the Learn menu) is built specifically for transport operators. It includes:
- Toolbox Talks - ready-to-use 10-minute wellbeing briefings on topics including fatigue, mental health, nutrition, and stress. Each talk includes a facilitator guide and discussion prompts. Print them, share them digitally, or use them as a basis for your own briefings.
- Welfare Check Templates - structured welfare check forms for line managers conducting one-to-one check-ins with drivers or staff. Covers physical health, mental health, working conditions, and any concerns the employee wants to raise.
- Risk Assessment Templates - pre-built risk assessment frameworks for common transport sector hazards, including lone working, fatigue, and manual handling.
- Policy Templates - draft mental health and wellbeing policies that you can adapt for your organisation. Covers absence management, reasonable adjustments, and mental health first aid.
- Duty of Care Guidance - a plain-English guide to your legal obligations as a transport employer under the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, the Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999, and the Working Time Regulations 1998.
Step 3 - Encourage the Daily Mood Check-In
DriverWell's mood check-in tool takes less than 60 seconds and gives each driver a personalised wellbeing score. Over time, it builds a picture of patterns - days of the week, shift types, or routes that consistently affect mood. Drivers who use it regularly report feeling more aware of their own stress levels and more likely to seek support before a problem escalates.
As a manager, you do not see individual results - the tool is confidential by design. But you can encourage its use by mentioning it in briefings and normalising the conversation around mental health. The data each driver sees belongs to them, which builds trust.
Step 4 - Point Drivers to RoadMate AI
RoadMate is DriverWell's AI companion - a confidential, always-available chat tool that drivers can use between shifts, during breaks, or at any time they need to talk. It is not a replacement for professional support, but it provides an immediate, non-judgmental outlet that many drivers find easier to use than calling a helpline or speaking to a manager.
For fleet managers, the value is that drivers have somewhere to go at 2am on a long-haul run, or after a difficult delivery, without needing to wait for an EAP appointment. Signposting RoadMate in your driver handbook or induction pack costs nothing and could make a significant difference to a driver in difficulty.
Step 5 - Use the CPC Training Directory
If you manage drivers who need to complete or renew their Driver CPC, DriverWell's CPC Training Directory lists verified, DVSA-approved training providers across the UK. Every listing has been checked - no placeholder entries. The directory includes providers offering classroom, online, and blended learning options, covering both National and International CPC.
The directory also includes information on the Return to Driving CPC course for drivers whose 35-hour periodic training has lapsed - a common situation for drivers returning after illness, redundancy, or a career break.
Step 6 - Share the Blog and Resources
DriverWell's blog covers topics relevant to both drivers and operators - fatigue management, mental health legislation, industry news, and practical guidance. Sharing relevant articles with your team via WhatsApp or email is a low-effort way to keep wellbeing on the agenda without requiring anyone to log in or sign up.
All blog content is publicly accessible. You do not need an account to read it.
A Note on Confidentiality
DriverWell is designed to be trusted by drivers, which means individual data is never shared with employers. Mood check-ins, RoadMate conversations, and forum posts are private to the individual user. This is intentional - drivers are more likely to engage honestly with a wellbeing tool if they know their employer cannot see the results.
Your role as a fleet manager is to create the conditions in which drivers feel safe using the tool, not to monitor their use of it. Mentioning DriverWell in briefings, normalising the conversation around mental health, and leading by example are the most effective things you can do.
