Basic first aid awareness for transport

In a life-threatening emergency, call 999 now. This course is for learning, not real-time emergency instructions. Follow the emergency call handler and trained first aider at the scene.

Module 1 of 5

Start with safety

The first person you need to protect is yourself. Pause, look for danger and avoid becoming another casualty.

    Check for moving traffic, fuel, fire, electricity, unstable loads, machinery or any other immediate danger.

  2. 2

    If it is safe, ask someone to call for help while you stay nearby. Use available protective equipment such as gloves if you have it.

  3. 3

    Do not move an injured person unless there is an immediate danger. Wait for emergency professionals where possible.

Transport note

On a road, in a loading bay or in a workshop, give yourself time to make the area safer before you approach. Your visibility, location and safe exit route matter.

When formal training is needed

Awareness is useful. It is not accreditation.

Your employer must make suitable first-aid arrangements based on its own needs assessment. If you are the appointed first aider, work in a higher-risk setting, or your employer requires a qualification, you need training from a competent provider.
